Climate Change

What causes climate change and how can we stop it?

Climate change is caused by greenhouse gases, soot, land use changes and aerosols.
Climate change is heating up the Earth and causing ice caps to melt, which will drown coastal cities.
The Antarctic & Arctic creatures will all lose their habitats, deeming them HIGHLY endangered.
Try using alternatives to petrol or diesel cars, such as e-cars or walking & biking.
Try using energy from alternative sources like solar, hydro and wind power like Tokelau.
Places like Tokelau are going the extra mile to save the environment!
If the whole world was like Tokelau, we would have a much smaller problem.
Jacinda Ardern claims the NZ will have no petrol or diesel cars on the road by 2030.
If this is true, the world would be a much better place.
Who knows? Maybe by 2050 the whole world will be petrol and diesel free!` x3

The Haka.

Does the haka give the all blacks an unfair advantage?
That was the question asked by the Irish journalist Ewan MacKenna, after a convincing loss to the all blacks. Around 20% of people believed that the All Blacks got an unfair advantage, while everyone else thought it was absolutely fine. Personally, I believe that the haka is fine, and makes them play better, but 20% of the voters disagree.

My Superpower

This week, we had a special teacher to come and talk to us. We all had to come up with our "superpower".  This superpower was something we think that we excelled at. I put my superpower as soccer, or football. We had to make a google drawing with our superpower, and the skills involved with the hobby. I spent around an hour on mine, always changing design. I put in eight things that are involved in football. Here it is.

Shake out!

This week around New Zealand, we had a shake out. It is a drill for an earthquake followed by a tsunami. We are almost in the safe zone, we just need to cross a road and head up a hill. We had plenty of time, we just had to be weary of not standing on other peoples property while heading up the hill.

Greymain cup.

On the first day of the term, we did the Greymain cup. We all split up into team that play in the rugby world cup, and competed in different games. There was a game of Rippa rugby, Duck duck goose, A netball rugby competition game and many more. I was the captain of South Africa, and our team did well, we didn't place but we all enjoyed it.

Area 51 raid Aftermath

On Saturday, the Area 51 raid became a thing. Two million people signed up to come and raid the military base, and an estimated 75 people showed up.
This was disappointing for everyone trying to watch it. No-one actually tried to get in except an old lay, who just walked on in. The rest just protested outside
Although no-one actually raided, there is a new mini celebrity.
Someone Naruto ran past a news reporter, while the camera was on. I will have links to the lady entering and the man running.

She (The lady) was detained by the police, and released at the scene.

Current Events: Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us.

Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us!

That is the title of the Facebook page that started it all. Over 2 Million people have signed up to attempt to raid the highest protected military base in America. The airspace over area 51 has been closed so that no drones can be flown to "Spot Aliens".
Area 51 is in Nevada, America. Nevada has a population of just over 3 million and is a state of America.
People planning to raid are apparently making strategies to get in, whether people flank in through the sides, or rush up the middle, that will be decided on September 20th, or the 21st for New Zealand.

72,843 (News)

Did you know that the Amazon rain forest is on fire? You probably know, but it hasn't been in the news very much. Already this year, there have been 72,843 fires recorded. The worst bit about it is that the isolated tribes, that live in the heart of the amazon, might die!! All of the tribes will have to escape from the flame, and run to safety through all of the fire, and hot spots. That would not be easy. All of the smoke would make it so hard to see, let alone run. I think that everyone should donate a bit of money so that the "Earths Lungs" Can live to breathe another day.

Tessellation

This week, we have been working on different types of maths. I have been doing tessellation. I did a google drawing on tessellation to show what it means, and then did some tessellation art on paper. Here is the drawing.

As you know from the start, I did some art. I made a shape using squiggly lines, and traced around it. The final result shocked me, because I don't think I am good at art. You don't need to be amazing at art to do tessellation!!
Here is the of the final product.
I hope you like my tessellation as much as I do, and that you try to do it as well!!

Thank the drone. (News)

This week in the news, a professional photographer (Dan Watson) Was at New Smyrna Beach, where he, his wife and his three kids (The kids were the only ones swimming) were chilling. Dan was flying his drone to get a photo of the kids (As I said he was a professional) But anyway, we got a photo and this was it.
That was a really good photo, but in case you didn't see the slight problem, look again. Still don't see it?? Look below at the circle (And the inside)
Now do you see what I mean. That is outlining a shark, which is pretty darn close to his children. Don't know about you, but I would not like to be that close unless it was safe. He yelled to his wife to get the kids out of the water, and she did. They all escaped unharmed.

What's been in the news this week..

Recently, A Fungal Disease has been killing Our rare "Fat" Kakapo. Seven Kakapo have died in recent months, after catching the disease (The population is over 200, but not 210!).
Kakapo Supporters have donated over NZ$100,000; with more than 50% of it coming from *drum roll* OVERSEAS!! Not even kidding.
"They could all die" Is a statement from Dr James Chatterton, Auckland Zoo’s head of veterinary services. A quote from Department of Conservation is... "Kakapo need our urgent support"
That is very true, and we do need to help the Kakapo.

What's been in the news this week.

This week, The black caps (The NZ Cricket team) Played Bangladesh in the cricket world cup. This was our second game in the world cup, we hadn't lost yet and then... We played Bangladesh. Our team was playing well, but not on our A-Grade. They were batting first and set an goodish score of 244 all out. Now we were batting. Our opening batters didn't do to well and went out for a partnership of 49. The game was mostly close, and at the end it came down to when we needed 1 run from 14 balls. We finished it off with a four and won our second game. We are unbeaten and still are going well!!!

My goals

This week we have been reflecting on our learning from term 1, and set some new learning goals. Here are my goals.

Tuesday, April 9, 2019

Financial Literacy.

In the past few weeks, our class have started doing Financial literacy. What is Financial Literacy? We had a teacher come in and get us started, and helped us through out. At first, he gave us a piece of paper with the options of being Married, In a relationship or single, You could have 0-4 children, You could have 0-4 Cars of any type, and 0-4 cats or dogs. Then he gave us a card with our income, How much tax we pay, and our mortgage rate. Oh. I was lucky and got a High(ish) paying job. After paying my tax, mortgage and groceries (The amount of money you pay for groceries vary) and after paying for a Fortune card (Might lose might gain), I was In credit! Throughout the next couple of weeks, I didn't Go into debt (But every week I lost money in my fortune)
Then It was the BIG Day of it. On the 4 week mark, We had to pay for a lot more things such as SKY TV, Life Insurance, Our Vehicle, Our Internet and our electricity and Then the normal things. I started the day with $1891.12 which is A LOT and ended the day with 84 dollars. I added It to my Savings (Which is 2000 Dollars) And finished the month in credit!!
I wonder how the next few month will be for me?

What's been in the news this week.

ATTENTION ALL DIVERS (In Wairarapa)

Recently, A 5m Metre long great white shark was Spotted Of the South East Coast of Wairarapa. Although It was Weeks Ago, Paua 2's Industry Association chairman Tony Craig said "It was seen a couple of weeks ago, but that's not to say it wouldn't still be hanging around."
They Sent out the warning just to be on the safe side.
Sightings of great white sharks are rare in coastal waters.
I think that although, sightings are rare, doesn't mean it wouldn't be freaky.

In groups of four, We Microwaved the pumpkin, Cut it in half, Scooped out all the seeds, Added butter, garlic, salt and pepper and roasted them for A couple of hours. We then got a large spoon and scooped out the pumpkin flesh.
Then we put it in a blender, Filled it up and Blended it. We added it to the pot, Added 4 cups of water and 4 tsp Of chicken stock. We stirred it while it was on the heat, patiently waiting and suddenly, Soup was served!
I loved it And Would enjoy second helpings.
I loved doing this because most of the day, I wasn't in the class and It was relaxed.

West Coast, South Island

This Week, Our Class has been working on a slide. We has to answer questions relating to the West Coast as even though we live here we do not know everything about our Province. For some we had to go into further detail.
I liked this because I like history, and I like learning new things (Which I do a lot).

What's Been In The News This Week...

This Year (And week), in Auckland, right now, the largest of this particular thing (In New Zealand) is being built.  A MALL! A 790 million dollar mall is being built right now in West Auckland.

I have Quoted Stuff here "Auckland's highly anticipated Newmarket mall could open in July."  There will be 230 shops, Some of them haven't been seen in New Zealand before, including Coco Republic, which offers quality furniture. There will also be 2800 car parks. (That is not a store, but there will be 2800 car parks)

I would like to have a look around the mall when it is open, but the only flaw in that plan is that I don't live in Auckland.

What's Been in the News this Week.

This week, Apple has released 3 new products. They released the apple TV +, the Apple arcade and the Apple Credit Card. For those of you wondering about Apple news, technically they just updated it. Apple have been releasing a lot recently also with a new ipad mini and Airpods 2.

Apple have already earned quite a lot of money on these three products, helping the already rich company.  I think Apple are going to do well in 2019 because their products are popular and doing well on the market.

What's Been In the News This Week...

This week, in Wellington, a breaking discovery has been made. One of the most popular places for swimming was tested and RAW SEWAGE HAS BEEN FOUND! The Greater Wellington Regional Council says that the reason of contamination was an illegal mix between stormwater pipes and sewage. People have been advised against swimming at Taranaki Street Wharf as It could cause Vomiting, Aching, Fevers, and Infections.
Personally I think this is disgusting, And I hope that the council has signs up to warn people.

My Poem

My poem
WALT: Create a picture in our reader's mind by including descriptive detail

Last week our class were working on poems.
I chose to do mine on a little ship in a bottle. We got 40 Adjectives on the thing we picked, then got the best eighteen, and made a poem on a website and voilà  we have a poem. Here is mine.
I found it quite hard to get 40 Adjectives and then choose the best ones. Maybe next time I will choose a easier object...

What's been in the news this week...

Did you know, that this week, with flying colours, Auckland council with just under 90% (Or 7997 people) votes decided to petition the government to ban private use of Fireworks! It would then be illegal to let fireworks off at your house!!

The SPCA, Fire and Emergency NZ, NZ Veterinary Association and SAFE all spoke in favour of the ban. The biggest concerns raised in the submissions were the safety of people and animals, followed by noise.

I agree with this decision as I have two dogs and one is terrified of fireworks! People can still go to public displays.
